What is weight loss coaching exactly?
Weight loss coaching is a collaborative process where we work together to help you meet your goals, whatever they may be. You’ll learn how to actually set goals and meet them! Imagine actually finishing and sticking with what you started. Amazing right? Coaching sessions are usually held via video conference calls but can be held in person if you live in the area. As a coach, I work to support you, challenge any beliefs that may be holding you back, and hold you accountable to take action.
That means if you didn’t get something done that you committed to, you’ve got some explaining to do. 😉
I also help you make long-lasting and sustainable changes that improve all areas of your life including your relationships, career, and even parenting.
Does weight loss coaching actually work?
Short answer: Absolutely. Research repeatedly demonstrates that life coaching is effective. Weight loss coaching improves the rate of success in accomplishing goals. And it helps people hit their goals quicker.
How is weight loss coaching any different from therapy?
The main difference is that I’m not treating a mental health diagnosis. There’s no treatment plan or psychotherapy interventions. If you do have a mental health diagnosis like depression or anxiety, then I recommend that you also work with a counselor in your state of residence to address those issues as we do our work together. Or if you live in Illinois, that we address therapy issues first before moving to coaching.
If you’re severely depressed or suicidal then coaching is not going to be appropriate. That situation requires therapy. And if you’re not in Illinois, I’m not able to provide therapy. Coaching should never be used as a substitute for therapy.
Life coaching focuses more on the goals you’d like to achieve and how we’re going to get you to those goals. It has much less of a focus on healing from old wounds than therapy does. That’s not to say that we will never examine the past though. Sometimes the past holds us back from getting what we want now.
Like I’ve said before though, there is quite a bit of overlap between the two fields.
As your coach, I’ll really help you focus on shifting the way your brain thinks so that you can start attracting more love, wealth, freedom, and health into your life. Together, we’ll figure out what you actually want from life and how exactly you’re going to do that so that you can finally have the life you want.
I’ll hold you accountable each week too. If something is not getting done, we’re going to dig in and figure out why and what to do about it.
Do I have to be a mom to work with you?
Absolutely not. I work with busy women who have struggled to lose weight or stick to their diet plans. And this is for any woman that is looking to change her mindset around diet and exercise and finally feel good in her skin again.
I hate dieting and exercise. Can you help me with that?
Girl, I feel ya. I used to HATE exercising as well. And let’s be real, nobody likes dieting. That being said, working with me is especially for you if you hate dieting and exercising. Unlike like most weight-loss professionals, we’re actually going to work through the mental blocks that cause you to hate both. This program will help you change your relationship with your body, diet, and exercise.
I hate going to the gym will I have to go if I work with you?
No, we can start with at-home workouts. However, I personally believe that you will make more progress if you also commit to working out at a gym. I’ll help you work through your fear of the gym or any other mental blocks that get in the way of you being able to go to the gym.
I feel guilty doing something that is just for me. What should I do?
I totally get it, it’s tough to put yourself first sometimes. Especially if you’re a working mom and you already feel guilty enough about the time you spend away from your kids.
But think of it this way, when you’re happier, you become a better version of you. And when you’re better version of you, your family ultimately benefits. By taking the time to work out for 4 hours a week MAX, you’ll demonstrate to your kids how important it is to take care of themselves and honor and value their bodies. Win win, right?
Do I have to change my diet and count calories?
I’m not gonna lie to you here. In order to lose weight, you need to be eating fewer calories than you burn. The ONLY way to make progress is to change your eating habits. There’s truth to the popular saying, “You can’t out train a bad diet.” But that doesn’t mean you have to give up foods you love. You can still eat carbs, fats, AND sugars. Awesome right?! We’ll be using something called “flexible dieting.” What that means is I’ll work with you to still eat foods you enjoy while also making sure you’re losing fat. Everything just needs to be in moderation. And we won’t be counting calories, we’ll be counting macros.
What if I’m breastfeeding?
I actually began my weight loss journey while I was breastfeeding so it can be done. This will depend on each person, so no blanket statements can be made here. But, if you’ve been breastfeeding for at least 3 months your supply “should” already be established and it may be possible to start our work together. I would consult a lactation expert or your medical doctor and ask for his or her recommendation. And because neither of us can predict the future, we can start our work together, and if you find it drastically affects your milk supply after 2 weeks, I will happily refund your money.
What if I have an eating disorder or have had an eating disorder in the past?
This is a tricky question and would need to be discussed on a case by case basis. Recovering from anorexia and bulimia are tough enough as it is, and a focus on weight loss early in recovery will most likely be more triggering than anything else. But, I would consider it if you are also receiving professional counseling and have been in recovery without engaging in any ED behaviors for at least 2 years. Let’s talk about it though.
How much weight can I expect to lose?
This depends on which coaching package you go with. If you choose the 3 month starter package, you can expect to lose 10-20 lbs. of pure fat (possibly more depending on your metabolism) at the end of the program. If you choose my 6 month weight loss package you can expect to lose 15-35lbs. of pure fat. Don’t be fooled by programs that trick you into believing that you will lose 20 pounds in ten days.
They say you’ll lose “20 pounds” but don’t say what those pounds are made up of – water, fat or muscle. We want to prevent muscle loss as much as possible and make sure that the weight you’re losing is actual fat. That’s not what we’re doing here. It’s not healthy or sustainable. I want you to lose the weight and KEEP it off for good. This is a key difference!
Weight loss results will vary though based on individuals and no results are guaranteed.
